Searching For An Antidote For Morgellons Disease

Morgellons is rare disease that was recently identified 2002 by woman named by Mary Leitao. Her son was afflicted by the disease which involves an unexplained skin condition where the symptoms range from having the sensation bugs crawling beneath the skin to severe itching. People with this disease have also experienced unexplained rashes & sores.

Mrs. Leitao had studied biology & took upon herself to examine her son”s skin. She was surprised to find strange colored fibers sprouting from his skin. This was very disturbing & unusual finding that no other doctor could explain. But through Mrs. Leitao”s research efforts she found out that this was not new disease & that there were many others suffering from same condition as her son.

Leitao took matters into her own hands & began doing her own investigating. She examined her son”s skin under toy microscope & found strange fibers stemming from sores. The fibers came different colors & lengths. It was obvious to her that they were not clothing fibers. She believed these fibers were the cause her son”s condition but she could not find doctor that would substantiate her claims.

Leitao continued to do her own research. She looked into the fibers & could not ascertain its origins. She noticed they sprouted up from her son”s skin & they appeared to each have different colors. Some medical professionals dismissed this as clothing fibers. But Leitao knew this was not the case & she continued her research.

Since there were no medical or scientific professionals that were willing state that her son was fact suffering from rare skin condition Leitao took her claims to the Center for Disease Control. The CDC was not able to find cause for the condition & labeled an unidentifiable condition. Prior to that many doctors told Leitao that her son may be suffering from mental condition & his symptoms were all his head. But Leitao knew that this was not the case.

But Leitao never gave up. She was determined to find out what was afflicting her son. She named the disease & started up her own research organization. Shortly after she established her foundation other people began to contact her claiming that they too suffered from condition.

As the result her research & advocacy for additional investigation into Morgellons disease many other cases were identified the United States & abroad. The disease still does not have cure but is now known to afflict many other individuals. The CDC continues to list as an unexplained dermopathy.
